Surf Dog Diaries is a dog blog by Barb Ayers and her pack of surfing rescue dogs. The Surf Dog team started riding waves in San Diego at Ocean Beach's Dog Beach in 1992, when dog surfing wasn’t even a sport.

Five dog generations later, Barb and doxies Doodle and Nacho ride the ups and downs of small town life in Hood River, Oregon, in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area - home of Dog River and Dog Mountain.

The ride begins and ends at Dog Beach

Barb and her first surf basset Howdy Doody co-chaired the Dog Beach Committee of the Ocean Beach Town Council (OBTC,) managing the transformation of OB’s famous leash-free dog park over a ten year span.

The Dog Beach Improvement Project was dedicated July 26, 2003 and improvements continue today. Barb was President of OBTC, and was named OB Citizen of the Year.

Celebrating a Dog Beach way of life…

At the Dog Beach entryway, pass palm trees in the sand. Walk barefoot over 8-foot paw prints. Do a 360 around the 3D surf dog sculptures.

The power of community made it all possible!
